VA 19, 23 mm. Rare button with bizarre balloon headed figures. According to Tice, there are various theories surrounding this controversial button, some to the effect that Steele and Johnson who produced these buttons, were covertly selling to the Confederacy after the war broke out and trying to imitate crude Virginia local made variants. Condition is superb. Very high convex dome and deformed channel back.
