Confederate Buttons

Confederate States General Service

CSBTN GS 1. Very Rare “Southern Confederacy” Coat Button.

TX 29 (Alberts), 23.5 mm. Very rare button. Albert’s and Tice both associate it with the State of Texas but there are two known uniforms with these buttons, and they are both identified to Tennessee Officers. Some of those buttons have a “HOME MADE/LOUISVILLE KY.” bm. Excellent condition with sharp details. Features a five-pointed star on a lined field surround by the motto “SOUTHERN CONFEDERACY“. No pushes, cracks, or repairs. Reverse has a blank back with two concentric lines. Intact shank. This button was recently acquired fron a Mississippi family and has not been cleaned or messed with since the surrender in 1865. A very desirable Confederate button indeed.

$7995.00

CSBTN GS 2. Confederate “J.E.B.” Stuart Cavalry Officer’s Coat Button.

Off-the charts rare button that was picked up on the Second Manassas VA. Battlefield as described on the accompanying envelope. An authenticity and condition report done by John Sexton also accompanies the button. He states that in spite of the push, the detail is exceptional compared to the few known survivors. I have only seen maybe two others and they were excavated and pushed. This one retains a lot of original gold plating. In my opinion this gemstone is the keystone for any Confederate Government button collection. The battlefield provenance is a boon!

Confederate Navy

CSBTN CSN 1. Confederate Navy Coat Button.

CS 68, 23.5 mm. Perfect condition with “E. M. LEWIS & CO. / RICHMOND. VA.” rmdc. This rare Confederate Navy Ship button looks fantastic with very strong details. You can see the stars surrounding the ship and it has a killer patina. I cannot tell if this is a non dug button, battlefield pickup or one that was dug or eyeballed decades ago and cleaned. It came from a very early non dug button collection that had many buttons from battlefields picked up shortly after the war by veterans and souvenir hunters. Either way, it is a killer rare button and would totally fit in a non dug collection for less than $10,000, which is in the range of the last one I saw sold for.

SOLD B.P.
